How it works

1

Scan your storage

FreeMemory reads your photo and file library and builds a fingerprint for each file using MD5 hashing.

2

Group exact duplicates

Files with identical fingerprints are grouped together. Only true duplicates match — similar-looking photos are not included.

3

Review before deleting

You see every group with a thumbnail. The first copy is protected by default; you choose which extras to remove.

4

Delete selected copies

Tap delete. The originals stay. Your storage shrinks. The app tracks how much you saved across all sessions.

One limitation to know

FreeMemory finds exact duplicates only. If you have two photos of the same scene taken seconds apart, or a screenshot that has been lightly edited, they will not be flagged. For near-duplicate or similar-image detection you would need a different tool.

Common questions

How does FreeMemory find duplicates?

It computes an MD5 hash for each file. Files with the same hash are byte-for-byte identical — not just visually similar. This means no false positives: a photo edited after copying will not be flagged.

Will it delete the original?

No. The first copy in each group is protected and cannot be selected. You can only delete the extras.

Does it work with videos too?

Yes. Duplicate detection runs on all media files — photos, videos, and other files — not just JPEGs.

Is my data sent to the cloud?

No. FreeMemory has no internet permission. All scanning and hashing happens on your device.
